Functional Communication Training

Many children act out because they don't yet have a way to tell us what they need. Functional Communication Training (FCT) gives your child a better way to communicate — and those challenging behaviors often fade as their words, signs, or pictures take their place. / Muchos niños tienen comportamientos difíciles porque aún no tienen la manera de decirnos lo que necesitan. How it works (English)
- We first figure out why a behavior is happening — your child may be trying to ask for something, get attention, or take a break.
- We teach a communication response that works just as well: spoken words, sign language, picture cards, or a speech device — whatever fits your child.
- We practice in real, everyday moments at home, so your child learns that communicating gets results faster than frustration does.
- Parents and caregivers learn how to respond and encourage communication throughout the day, keeping progress going between sessions.
